Asia Cup: India beat South Korea 4-1 in final, qualifies for next year’s World Cup

The Indian men’s hockey team won the Asia Cup title and advanced to the World Cup the following year after defeating South Korea 4-1 in the final at Rajgir in Bihar on Sunday.

In the summit clash, Sukhjeet Singh (1st minute) and Amit Rohidas (50th) were India’s other goal scorers, while Dilpreet Singh (28th and 45th minutes) scored a brace.

Dain Son scored the only goal in the 51st minute for South Korea, who were defending the title they had won in 2022.

India finished the tournament unbeaten, securing five wins and a draw. Under Harmanpreet Singh’s leadership, the team swept all three pool matches before entering the Super 4s, where they defeated Malaysia 4-1 and China 7-0, while being held to a 2-2 draw by South Korea.

Having already won the Asia Cup in 2003, 2007, and 2017, this is India’s fourth championship. The event has been won five times by South Korea: in 1994, 1999, 2009, 2013, and 2022.

Belgium and the Netherlands will host the next World Cup from August 14–30, 2026.
