The sparkle in Rajkumar Sharma’s eyes demonstrates how proud he is to see Abhishek Sharma capture the cricket world by storm. His son has become the new poster boy for India’s T20 side.
Rajkumar is one of the hundreds of devoted fathers who have sacrificed for their son’s athletic career, and his efforts have undoubtedly paid off, as Abhishek is currently the top T20 batter in the world.
The proud father visited the ICC Cricket Academy in Dubai prior to India’s highly anticipated Asia Cup match against Pakistan, which was undoubtedly a weird experience for him after taking him to those junior age-group matches.
This is the first time Abhishek’s father has travelled abroad since his son’s senior India debut, and he will be watching him live at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
When he approached the Indian dressing room, a happy Abhishek emerged and gave his father a hug. His childhood Punjab teammates Shubman Gill and Arshdeep Singh joined one by one to chat with their “Uncle,” who has watched them all rise to the top of the cricket world.
Additionally, the father received a memento from the Indian team: Abhishek’s cricket bat, which was autographed by every member of the team.
There was a lot of competition for his sound bites as he wished success and posed for pictures, but he had a commitment with BCC TV and couldn’t accommodate the eager group of reporters.
