Ashes: Mitchell Starc becomes most successful left-arm pacer in Test cricket history

Australian veteran Mitchell Starc overtook Pakistan’s legendary Wasim Akram on Thursday as the most successful left-arm pacer in Test history.

On the first day of the day-night second Ashes Test in Brisbane, the 35-year-old claimed England’s Harry Brook at the Gabba for his 415th wicket since making his debut at the same venue 14 years ago.

It put him ahead of Akram, who is regarded as the best left-arm bowler in history.

With a career-best 7-58 in the first innings of the first Ashes Test at Perth, Starc reached the milestone in his 102nd Test, while Akram played 104 Tests for his 414 wickets.

In the current pink-ball Test, Starc might surpass both South Africa’s Shaun Pollock (421) and India’s Harbhajan Singh (417), now ranked 16th on the list of all-time wicket-takers.

Following that, he will target Richard Hadlee (431) of New Zealand.
