MI sweat over Rohit Sharma’s fitness ahead of Punjab Kings clash

Rohit Sharma is most likely to miss Mumbai Indians next IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on April 16. The MI veteran sustained a hamstring injury during the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and retired hurt in the sixth over of the team’s batting innings.

Rohit didn’t come out to bat again as RCB won the match by 18 runs. According to media reports, his participation in Mumbai’s next game will depend on the results of his scans.

Rohit was batting on 19 off 13 balls when he suddenly decided to walk off the field. This happened after he faced the second ball of the final powerplay over bowled by Rasikh Salam. Before leaving, he was seen getting treatment from the team physio, who had also spoken to him at length just before the sixth over began.

After a long break, Rohit came back to the crease and faced just one ball, but then chose to walk off again for more treatment. So far, Mumbai Indians have not shared any official update about how serious the injury is.

After the match against RCB, Sherfane Rutherford was asked about Rohit’s condition, but he said he did not have any clear information.

“I’m not entirely sure yet – perhaps it’s a bit of a hamstring issue – but I can’t say for certain. I was in the dugout, so I don’t have much information on it,” Rutherford said.

Rohit got off to a strong start in IPL 2026, scoring a brilliant 78 against Kolkata Knight Riders in MI’s opening match. His innings played a big role in helping the team chase down a target of 221. He then added another useful knock of 35 against Delhi Capitals.

So far, Rohit has scored 137 runs in four matches this season. However, Mumbai Indians have struggled overall, managing to win only one out of their four games.
