Doha Diamond League moved to June 19, venue changed

The Diamond League in Doha has been scheduled to take place on June 19 at the Khalifa International Stadium, the organisers said in a statement. The event was originally planned to be held at the Qatar Sports Club on May 8 but had to be postponed because of the conflict in West Asia.

India’s javelin star Neeraj Chopra had breached the 90m mark last season at this event.

“In recent weeks, the Diamond League has been monitoring the situation in Doha, working in close co-ordination with meeting organisers, Qatari authorities and other stakeholders,” the press release stated.

“In the interests of athletes and spectators’ safety, a decision has now been taken to postpone the meeting. Should conditions allow, it will now be held on June 19,” the organisers further added.

Since Doha is expected to experience higher temperatures in June, the event will now be held at Khalifa International Stadium instead of Qatar Sports Club.

This stadium is equipped with temperature control technology, which helps keep conditions comfortable for athletes. It previously hosted the Diamond League and the World Athletics Championships in 2019.

The revised date places the Doha meet between the Oslo event on June 10 and the Paris meet on June 28, making it the eighth stop in the 2026 Diamond League calendar.

The season will begin in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 16 and conclude with the Diamond League Final in Brussels on September 4 and 5.

The Diamond League is a top-level series of one-day athletics events, featuring 15 of the most important meets in the sport.

It gives athletes from different track and field disciplines a chance to compete regularly at a high level throughout the season.

Across 32 events, athletes earn points in 14 meetings to qualify for the two-day final.

With competitions held in 13 countries across four continents, the Diamond League stands out as one of the most global sporting series.
