In order to alleviate the Kolkata Knight Riders’ batting problems in the current IPL 2026, former India captain Sourav Ganguly believes that vice-captain Rinku Singh should move up the order.
KKR, the three-time champions, have not won in their last three games this season, and the only point they currently own came from a Monday washout against Punjab Kings.
“He’s (Rahane) the Knight Riders captain, and I feel Rinku bats too low. He’s (Rinku) a better player than that, and, hopefully, the team finds a way to push him up the order,” PTI quoted Ganguly as saying.
Rinku had lit up the IPL 2023 and became the only batter to hit five sixes in the last over of an IPL or any T20 chase in their win over Gujarat Titans.
Additionally, Rinku was crucial to KKR’s 2024 IPL title run. Rahane and explosive New Zealander Finn Allen have been KKR’s starting lineup this season.
Cameron Green, the Knight Riders’ most expensive foreign acquisition (Rs 25.20 crore), was elevated to No. 3 ahead of Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who was playing well. Green has struggled in the IPL with scores of 18, 2, and 4 thus far, and he has yet to begin bowling as part of his management plan.
For the most part, Rinku has batted at number five. In an unsuccessful pursuit of 227 at the Eden Gardens, the left-hander hit an undefeated 33 off 21 balls against the Mumbai Indians and then 35 off 25 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
On Thursday, KKR will play the Lucknow Super Giants in Kolkata.
