BCB shake-up: Aminul Islam Bulbul removed, Tamim Iqbal appointed ad-hoc committee head

The National Sports Council (NSC) of Bangladesh dismissed former captain and current BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul on Tuesday. The NSC established an ad hoc committee to oversee day-to-day operations until new elections are held, days after the Bangladesh Cricket Board contacted the BCCI to request the revival of bilateral ties.

Asif Nazrul, the former interim government advisor, physically held the former captain prisoner during the T20 World Cup and prevented the national team from traveling to India for the international competition, which led to Bulbul’s removal, according to BCB sources.

As a protest against Mustafizur Rahaman’s exclusion from the IPL, anti-Indian hardliner Nazrul advocated moving Bangladesh’s matches from Kolkata and Mumbai to Sri Lanka.

Bulbul was merely a bystander during the entire situation, and as a result of him, six BCB directors have resigned in recent days.

Tamim Iqbal, a former captain of Bangladesh and the nation’s best opener, has been appointed head of the 11-member ad hoc committee tasked with holding the cricket board election within the next 90 days.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been informed of the decision to dissolve the current BCB board and propose an ad hoc committee, according to NSC Director Aminul Ehsan.

Although government or outside intervention in board matters is prohibited by the ICC charter, it is unlikely that the international organization will prohibit the Bangladesh board because the NSC has already declared a schedule for the elections.

Tamim Iqbal (president), Athar Ali Khan, Rashna Imam, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Minhazul Abedin Nannu, Ishrafil Khusroo, Tanzim Choudhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam, and Fahim Sinha are the eleven members of the ad hoc committee.
