Shreyas Iyer has been found guilty of breaching IPL’s Code of Conduct for the second match in a row for maintaining a slow over-rate during Punjab Kings match against Chennai Super Kings on Friday.
The Punjab Kings skipper was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate in the previous match against Gujarat Titans. The IPL governing council handed a heavy fine on Iyer including the members in the playing XI and the Impact Player.
In a statement released by IPL after the CSK vs PBKS match, it said: “Punjab Kings Captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No.7 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
“As this was his team’s second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.”
Iyer’s 29-ball fifty played a key role in PBKS beating CSK by five wickets. Put in to bat first, host CSK posted a competitive total of 209 for 5, with Ayush Mhatre scoring a 43-ball 73. Punjab gunned down the target in 18.4 overs to register their second consecutive win of the season.
