Mitchell Santner, the captain of the New Zealand Twenty20 International team, joined the Mumbai Indians team in New Delhi on Thursday in preparation for their Indian Premier League game against the Delhi Capitals.
On Saturday afternoon, the Capitals will play the five-time champion Mumbai Indians at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The Mumbai Indians, who had convincingly won against Kolkata Knight Riders in their season opener last Sunday in Mumbai, only had Santner and England all-rounder Will Jacks remaining to join them.
Before joining the MI squad, the two foreign players, who had made significant appearances for their respective countries in the T20 World Cup last month, had requested a longer time frame.
Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach of MI, has stated that these two players will have more time off for personal reasons.
“With the guys who are joining (late are) obviously Mitch (Mitchell Santner) and Jacksy (Will Jacks). Both (had) asked for a slightly extended time for personal reasons and we were quite happy to go with that. But they will join the team pretty soon,” PTI had quoted Jayawardene telling reporters on eve of the game against KKR.
