PSL: Pakistan Cricket Board tightens security after Lahore hotel scare

Following a security protocol breach at a team hotel in Lahore, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued new guidelines to all Pakistan Super League (PSL) teams, making it plain that any such infractions would not be accepted.

The PCB wrote a letter to all eight franchises and other authorities shortly after Zimbabwean captain Sikandar Raza, who plays for the Lahore Qalandars, expressed gratitude to the Board on social media for letting him visit his family at the team hotel.

According to credible sources, the PCB informed the franchises by mail that no player or official could meet with family members in the team hotel without first obtaining approval from the Board at least 24 hours in advance.

“The Board has made it clear that anyone wanting to meet with family members in the hotel has to seek permission 24 hours before the intended visit by family members,” PTI quoted the source, who is close to the PCB, as saying.

He added that the Board had made it clear that it would make an effort to set up a suitable meeting location at the team hotel for the player or players and their families.

“The Board has also made it clear that only a player’s wife, parents, brother and sister are allowed inside the players room, that too after getting clearance from the Board 24 hours in advance,” the source added.

He stated that the security protocol violation by Lahore captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Raza last Saturday, when four visitors were found in the latter’s room late at night, had been treated seriously by high police officers.

“The police officials conveyed to the Board that unless all franchises adhere strictly to the security protocols, it will be impossible for them to provide a safe and secure environment at the team hotel for all players and officials.”

It is also said that the PCB’s security manager and head of anti-corruption expressed his worries to PSL CEO Salman Naseer regarding the incident.
