The last couple of IPL seasons have witnessed high-scoring games with teams easily breaching the 200-run mark. IPL 2026 could well become the season where the 300-run mark looks a definite possibility.
Let’s take a look at the highest team totals registered in IPL history since its inception in 2008. Sunrisers Hyderabad have scored the highest total in IPL, when they posted 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024. It is the highest score recorded in T20 franchise cricket across the world.
After being put in to bat first, SRH made RCB pay for their decision as their fielders were sent on a leather hunt. Opener Travis Head made 41-ball 102 while Heinrich Klaasen scored 67 off 31 balls as SRH fell 13 runs short of the 300-run mark. On a batting beauty, RCB almost pulled off the run chase Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik playing blazing knocks but managed to reach 262 for 7.
Notably, RCB chase is the joint-highest IPL total by any team batting second. While, Punjab Kings’ 262/2 against Kolkata Knight Riders, in the same edition, was a successful run chase.
SRH came very close to breaking their own record of 287 runs in a home match against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, but fell short by just one run. Ishan Kishan scored an excellent century, but it was not enough to take the team past their record total.
SRH have been one of the strongest batting teams in recent IPL seasons. They appear four times in the list of top five highest team totals. In IPL 2024, they scored 277 against Mumbai Indians and 266 against Delhi Capitals. In IPL 2025, they went even higher with 278 for 3 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Delhi Capitals also had a tough outing in IPL 2024 when Kolkata Knight Riders scored 272 for 7, which is the fifth-highest total in the tournament.
IPL 2025 saw a huge number of high-scoring matches. Teams crossed the 200-run mark 52 times, the most ever in a single season. In comparison, during the first IPL season in 2008, teams crossed 200 only 11 times.
Before SRH set new benchmarks, RCB held the record for the highest total for many years. They scored 263 for 5 against the now-defunct Pune Warriors in IPL 2013. That innings was powered by Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 175 off 66 balls, which is still the highest individual score in T20 cricket. This record stood for nearly 11 years before SRH went past it against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024.
