The Pakistan Cricket Board on Saturday refuted claims that it had penalized players for not making it to the T20 World Cup semifinals.
“No player has been fined but yes the board is thinking about working out a formula for players because they get lot of incentives when they perform well,” PTI quoted PCB spokesperson Amir Mir as saying in Lahore.
According to him, the PCB is considering holding Pakistani players accountable for their performances because they currently make between six and seven crores each.
“But nothing is final and no player has been fined,” he added.
Following Pakistan’s early elimination from the ICC T20 World Cup, each player was reportedly fined PKR 5 million.
In addition to the standard match and tour payments and bonuses for winning games in various categories, Pakistani cricketers are awarded central contracts with monthly retainers.
A portion of the board-signed logo sponsorship agreement is also given to the players.
Last year, it was decided that the players would get a third of the PCB’s yearly earnings from the International Cricket Council, which comes to almost US$34 million.
