According to reports, Indian bowler Harshit Rana of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) may not play in the 2026 Indian Premier League.
Rana experienced some knee pain while bowling during India’s warm-up match against South Africa prior to the 2026 T20 World Cup. After bowling just one over, he had to leave the pitch because of agony. As a result, he was withdrawn from the squad.
According to a report in the Times of India, the 24-year-old had knee surgery and will require time for recovery and rehabilitation.
“Rana’s surgery was performed by Dinshaw Pardiwalla at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He was advised surgical repair of the lateral meniscus. Following surgery and a period of rest, he will begin rehabilitation and report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru,” the TOI report quoted sources as saying.
“While Rana has missed the T20 World Cup, he is also likely to be sidelined for a significant portion of the upcoming IPL, if not the entire tournament,” the quoted sources added.
A replacement has not yet been announced by the Kolkata-based franchise. Rana took 15 wickets in the IPL 2025 to highlight his increasing prominence as an attacking bowler.
Rana was instrumental in leading his team to their first championship in ten years in 2024, taking 19 wickets at a remarkable average of 20.16, the most of any uncapped player that season.
