West Indies stormed into the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2026 with a dominant nine-wicket victory over Nepal at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. Jason Holder’s four-wicket haul and Shai Hope’s fifty headlined the big win for the two-times champions.
Put in to bat first, Nepal were restricted to 133 for 8 after Dipendra Singh Airee (58) and Sompal Kami (26 not out) played gritty knocks. But the Caribbeans made easy work of the run-chase as they cruised to their third straight victory with 28 balls to spare.
After Holder starred with the ball, skipper Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 61 and Shimron Hetmyer 46 not out that took the Windies over the line for a comfortable win. After this defeat, Nepal are now out of contention for the next stage.
Not long ago Nepal had clinched a 2-1 T20 series win over a depleted West Indies side in Sharjah, and looked for their first win in Group C after losing their first two league games to England and Italy.
With help on offer for the bowlers, Nepal had a jittery start as Akeal Hosein dismissed Kushal Bhurtel on the fifth delivery of the innings and soon after Matthew Forde was trapped lbw.
Holder, who finished with figures of 4 for 27 then had Aasif Sheikh caught in the deep, as Nepal were reduced to 22 for 3 in six overs, the lowest powerplay score in this edition of the T20 World Cup.
Nepal failed to consolidate with few more dismissals before Airee decided to counterattack and reached his half-century, supported well by Kami at the other end to help their team reach 133 for 8 in 20 overs.
