T20 World Cup: Suryakumar Yadav confirms Washington Sundar’s return to squad in Delhi

Following the team’s 29-run victory against the USA in the T20 World Cup on Saturday, captain Suryakumar Yadav said that all-rounder Washington Sundar, who is back to full fitness, will join the Indian team in New Delhi before their match against Namibia on February 12.

“Washington Sundar is fit and will be joining the squad directly in Delhi (ahead of the Namibia game),” PTI quoted Suryakumar as saying at the post-match presentation ceremony on Saturday.

Additionally, he verified that opener Abhishek Sharma was “under the weather” and that Jasprit Bumrah had a high fever. Abhishek didn’t field for a long time with Sanju Samson, the 12th man, doing the fielding duties.

Washington missed the T20I series in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup after suffering a side strain and rib muscle injury during the ODI series against New Zealand. The medical and sports science team cleared the Tamil Nadu all-rounder to return to the pitch after he completed a rigorous rehabilitation program and complied with all Return To Play guidelines.

He has been bowling and batting at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for about a week now with little trouble. The Indian squad has already lost Harshit Rana, a pacer, who is anticipated to be out for a long time after being ruled out with a knee injury.
