
India captain Suryakumar Yadav moved up five spots to seventh position in the ICC men’s T20I rankings on Wednesday after a strong performance in the current five-match home series against New Zealand, which India leads 3-0.
Just ten days before the T20 World Cup, India dominates the upper reaches of the standings with Abhishek Sharma at the top and Tilak Varma in third place. The former No. 1 batter climbed the chart with scores of 32, 82 not out, and 57 not out.
Other batters who have benefited from the top-ranked T20I team include Shivam Dubey (up nine places to 58th) and Rinku Singh (up 13 places to 68th). Ishan Kishan, who struck 76 off 32 balls in the second game in Raipur, has returned to the rankings at 64th place.
After a strong run during their 2-1 series victory against the West Indies in Dubai, Afghanistan’s openers Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah have also made notable progress. While Player-of-the-Series Darwish Rasooli has advanced 29 spots to 87th place after amassing 156 runs, Ibrahim has moved up two spots to 13th and Rahmanullah has moved up three spots to 15th.
Aiden Markram, the captain of South Africa, moved up into the top 20 with a 47-ball 86 not out in their opening match against the West Indies. Brandon King of the West Indies moved up 15 spots to 35th, while Glenn Phillips of New Zealand moved up 18 spots to 44th.
Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman moved up five spots to ninth place in the T20I bowling rankings with a haul of four for 21 in the second match against the West Indies. Meanwhile, South Africa’s Corbin Bosch moved up eight spots to a career-best 32nd, India’s Jasprit Bumrah moved up four spots to 13th, and Ravi Bishnoi moved up 13 spots to 19th.
After taking four wickets in three games, Hardik Pandya of India has risen 18 spots to 59th place in the bowling rankings. Additionally, he moved up one spot to third among all-rounders and two spots to 53rd among batters.
Harry Brook and Joe Root, two English batsmen who contributed to their team’s 2-1 series victory in Sri Lanka, have risen in the ODI rankings. Root’s 184 runs move him from 23rd to 17th position, while Brook’s 247 runs over the course of the three games have moved him up 17 spots to 11th.
With seven wickets in the series, leg-spinner Adil Rashid has risen six spots to fifth in the ODI bowling rankings, while left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage of Sri Lanka has risen from 43rd to 29th.
