India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah reflected on his ten years in international cricket on Sunday with a hint of passion, remembering the constant struggle against “pains” and “opinions.”
Bumrah, a white ball specialist who burst into the national consciousness of a cricket-mad country in 2016, quickly established himself as an unstoppable force in all three formats.
With a scorching spell of 4-0-17-3 against New Zealand in the third Twenty20 International in Guwahati on Sunday, he reminded everyone of his incredible abilities and won Player of the Match award once more.
“Feels good to complete 10 years. As a kid, I tried to play one game. Fighting pains, assumptions, opinions, aches etc was tough. It’s a feather in my cap. Journey continues,” Bumrah said at the post-match presentation.
Critics did not think Bumrah would stay on the circuit for very long in the early stages of his career, mostly due to his unusual action. Even while recovering from some serious injuries, like a recurrent back spasm, he has repeatedly proven his critics wrong.
However, his constantly ticking brain was unaffected by such feelings during the game.
“I was keeping an eye when Rana and Hardik bowled. When I came on the ball was scuffed up. I’m happy as long as I can contribute. If I’m given the new ball I can do it, same for the death,” Bumrah added.
