T20 World Cup: Injury blow for New Zealand as Kyle Jamieson replaces Adam Milne

Pacer Kyle Jamieson was added to New Zealand’s T20 World Cup team after Adam Milne was sidelined due to a torn left hamstring.

According to New Zealand Cricket, Milne was hurt in the opening over of the SA20 match between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town last Sunday. Scans have shown the full extent of the damage.

“Jamieson, who is currently part of the Blackcaps white-ball tour of India, has been added to the T20 World Cup squad after originally being named as the traveling reserve for the February-March tournament in India and Sri Lanka,” NZC said on their website.

Milne, who was not on the team touring India, was preparing for the T20 World Cup, according to New Zealand head coach Rob Walter.

“We’re all gutted for Adam. He’d worked so hard to get himself ready for the tournament and was looking back to his best in his eight games for the Eastern Cape Sunrisers,” PTI quoted Walter as saying.

After leading an inexperienced Kiwi pace attack during the white ball tour of India, Walter voiced confidence in Jamieson’s ability to perform well in the T20 World Cup.

“It’s great that Kyle is already with us here in India. He’s an integral member of our pace-bowling group and has hit the ground running on this tour. He’s a hard worker with a good set of skills and experiences that will hold him in good stead for the tournament,” Walter added.

There will be a subsequent announcement regarding Jamieson’s replacement in the traveling reserve pool.
