Washington Sundar ruled out of New Zealand T20 series, T20 World Cup in doubt

Due to a side strain, India all-rounder Washington Sundar was ruled out of the five-match Twenty20 series against New Zealand on Wednesday.

While bowling in the first ODI against New Zealand, Washington felt pain in his left lower ribs. He was consequently ruled out from the three-match ODI series.

Now it is learnt that he will not be able to recuperate in time for the five-match Twenty20 series that starts in Nagpur on January 21.

“Washington Sundar has been ruled out from T20 series vs NZ due to side strain,” a PTI report quoted a BCCI official as saying.

Due to his injury, Washington’s participation in the T20 World Cup, which starts on February 7, is uncertain.

Due to a groin injury that necessitated surgery, Tilak Varma will also miss the first three Twenty20 matches against New Zealand.
