The enormous demand for the India-Pakistan match on February 15 in Colombo caused the BookMyShow website to crash on Wednesday, just minutes after the second round of ticket sales for the men’s T20 World Cup went live.
The platform’s servers went down as a result of an unusual number of simultaneous login and purchase attempts brought on by the high-profile fixture, which was part of this phase of allocations.
“Several users reported failed transactions and long waiting times. The volume of concurrent requests caused the platform’s servers to crash,” a PTI report quoted a source as saying.
The 10th ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is the first time the competition has been held in India since the West Indies won it in 2016.
After a spectacular victory in the last edition back in 2024, the co-hosts will be defending their title at home. After 2012, this will be the second instance that Sri Lanka is hosting the competition.
Three matches are scheduled to take place on the first day of the T20 World Cup: Pakistan will play the Netherlands in Colombo, the two-time winners West Indies will take on Bangladesh in Kolkata, and India will face the USA in Mumbai.
India, Pakistan, Namibia, the Netherlands, and the United States are all placed in Group A.
