Kagiso Rabada doubt persists as South Africa summon Lungi Ngidi for Guwahati Test against India

Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been added to South Africa’s team for the second and final Test match against India, which starts on Saturday in Guwahati.

According to an ESPNCricinfo report, Ngidi’s call-up suggests that Kagiso Rabada, who missed the team’s historic victory in Kolkata due to a rib injury, is still unclear for the Guwahati Test.

Wiaan Mulder, Marco Jansen, and Corbin Bosch are the other pace alternatives accessible to tour participants.

Ngidi has played 20 Tests overall, but only three since making his comeback in January 2024 during the Cape Town Test against India. His latest red-ball appearance was in the World Test Championship final against Australia in June. He has featured in only one Test in India, going wicketless in Ranchi in 2019.

In addition to playing for the Titans in the CSA T20 Challenge last week, Ngidi participated in South Africa’s ODI and T20I series in Pakistan in October and November.

South Africa’s pace attack proved effective in the first Test in Kolkata, taking six wickets to help the visitors win their first Test match on Indian soil since 2010.

Although the surface in Kolkata provided movement for the quicks, conditions in Guwahati are still unknown because no Test match has ever been played there.
