MS Dhoni’s IPL 2026 future: CSK CEO makes crucial revelation

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the most capped player in Indian Premier League history. Even though he declared his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020, Dhoni is still playing in the richest franchise cricket league in the world and is scheduled to play in the IPL the following year.

The CEO of Dhoni’s IPL team, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), claims that the former India captain will participate in the 10-team competition in 2026 and will not retire.

Viswanath made the big revelation in a recent video shared by Provoke Lifestyle on YouTube. When a few young boys questioned Kasi about Dhoni’s retirement, he said that the 44-year-old was not retiring.

“No, he is not going to retire,” Kasi said, adding, “No, he is not retiring for this (2026) IPL,” while replying to another query.

When asked, “When will Dhoni retire?” Kasi said, “I will ask him and get back to you.”

When asked if CSK would win the IPL championship the next year, he responded, “We are ready, but we don’t know whether we will be able to win. But we will try our best.”

For the first time in 18 seasons, CSK ended at the bottom of the points table in the 2025 IPL season after only winning 4 of their 14 league games.

Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, Chennai Super Kings are expected to overhaul their squad. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was bought for over Rs 9 crore in last year’s mega auction, has already announced his retirement from the league, while the franchise is also likely to release players such as Devon Conway, Deepak Hooda, and Vijay Shankar.

When asked, “Which new player are you (CSK) going to get in your team?” Kasi said, “That we can know only when the auction register comes out. That will be known by the first week of December.”
