India vs West Indies: Ravindra Jadeja overtakes MS Dhoni in prestigious Test cricket milestone

Ravindra Jadeja continued his excellent form against the West Indies in Ahmedabad on Friday, smashing his way past Mahendra Singh Dhoni to become India’s fourth-highest six-hitter in Test cricket.

The milestone came during Day 2 of the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad, where Jadeja scored an unbeaten 100 off 168 balls, hitting 6 fours and 5 towering sixes.

With the fourth six, Jadeja surpassed Dhoni’s 78 sixes in 90 Tests, bringing his total to 79 in 86 games. Rishabh Pant (90 in 47), Virender Sehwag (90 in 103), and Rohit Sharma (88 in 67 Tests) are still ahead of him in the list.

Jadeja 6th Test hundred meant that this is the fourth instance of India having three or more batters scoring 100s in the same innings in a calendar year after 1979, 1986, and 2007 – with KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel also scoring hundreds in this Test.

In 2025, India achieved the rare feat of having three centurions in a single Test innings on three different occasions — a sign of both batting depth and dominance across formats and conditions.

In the Leeds Test against England, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant all went on to score hundreds in the same innings. It was a statement of India’s young batting core coming of age in challenging overseas conditions.

In the Manchester Test against England, Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar repeated the milestone, with Jadeja’s all-round consistency and Sundar’s lower-order resilience making India’s lineup look formidable even in England’s seaming conditions.

In the Ahmedabad Test against the West Indies, KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel and Jadeja piled on centuries in the same innings. Jadeja’s presence again underlined his importance not just as a spinner but as a reliable Test batter, while Jurel’s maiden ton made headlines.

Across these three Tests, India’s batting lineup showed a balance of youth (Jaiswal, Gill, Jurel), experience (Rahul, Pant), and all-round reliability (Jadeja, Sundar) — making 2025 a standout year for Indian batting milestones.

Jadeja’s status as one of India’s best all-rounders and a vital contributor in the longest format is cemented by his combination of power hitting and consistency.
