Imprisoned former cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has made fun of Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi by stating that if they wish to defeat India in a cricket match, they should bat as openers with Army Chief Asim Munir.
Khan made his sarcastic remarks following India’s resounding two-match victory against Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup in Dubai.
Aleema Khan, the sister of the former prime minister, told reporters in Lahore on Monday that Imran had implied that the only way to defeat India in a cricket match was for Army Chief Gen. Munir and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Naqvi to bat as openers, with former Pakistani Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Pakistan’s Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja serving as umpires.
According to her, Justice Sarfaraz Dogar of the Islamabad High Court ought to serve as the third umpire.
Aleema claimed to have informed her brother about the Pakistan cricket team’s consecutive losses against India.
Khan, who captained Pakistan to their maiden and only ODI World Cup triumph in 1992, accused Naqvi of ruining Pakistan cricket through “incompetence” and “nepotism.”
The 72-year-old has also long accused Gen. Munir of employing then-CJP Isa and chief election commissioner Raja to steal the mandate of his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in the general elections held in February 2024.
The PTI founder has remained behind bars since August 2023 in connection with multiple cases.
