Gurnoor Brar receives ICC warning and demerit point after England clash

India pacer Gurnoor Brar received a warning and a demerit point for tossing the ball in a way that was “inappropriate and dangerous” during the first ODI against England in Birmingham.

Brar was found guilty of committing a Level 1 offense under Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

“In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to Brar’s disciplinary record, for whom it was a first offence in a 24-month period,” an ICC statement read.

In the eighth over of England’s innings, Brar picked up the ball while fielding and threw it in a way at the batter that was “inappropriate and dangerous.”

India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the game by six wickets.

There was no need for a formal hearing because Brar acknowledged the offense and agreed to the punishment suggested by match referee Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

The charge was leveled by fourth official Russell Warren, third umpire Sam Nogajski, and on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns. Level 1 infractions result in one or two demerit points, a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, and a maximum penalty of fifty percent of a player’s match fee.
