In the latest ICC men’s T20I batting rankings, which were made public on Wednesday, dashing India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has overtaken teammate Abhishek Sharma.
The flashy southpaw scored 317 runs at a strike rate of nearly 200 at the T20 World Cup at the beginning of the year, including a Player of the Match performance against Pakistan in Colombo, which contributed to Kishan’s ascent to the top (876 ranking points).
For nearly a year, Abhishek (869 ranking points) had been the best batter in Twenty20 International cricket. Kishan became one of just four Indian male players to hold the top spot, along with Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav.
With 848 points, Sahibzada Farhan of Pakistan comes in a far third place.
Newly appointed India vice-captain Tilak Varma (747 rating points) remains in sixth place on the most recent rankings, while fired former captain Suryakumar Yadav has slid to eighth place.
Varun Chakravarthy and Jasprit Bumrah of India slipped one spot each to rank third and sixth among bowlers, respectively. Rashid Khan of Afghanistan remained at the top.
Joe Root has fallen to third place in the men’s Test batting rankings, while Travis Head has stormed to the top.
Shubman Gill, the captain of India’s Test team, moved up to sixth place on the list, while Yashasvi Jaiswal moved down to ninth. Rishabh Pant, placed 13th, is the best Indian outside of the top 10. Among bowlers, Bumrah is at the top.
