Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar prospering on his Test debut is a credit to the rigorous structure that BCCI has developed for talent discovery, India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said on Monday after the home team crushed Afghanistan inside three days at Mullanpur.
Kotak spoke after India’s innings and 300-run victory—their greatest innings triumph. With a match total of seven wickets, including six in the first innings, Suthar was the most impressive player. He was able to get the ball to turn at its best pace by regularly landing it off-stump and in the middle.
“He really bowled well. A good prospect and actually satisfying. It is testament to our structure from Ranji, Emerging, A, IPL and TEST team,” Kotak said.
“Manav was part of India A vs Australia and England. His consistency and hard work since I saw him in India A, I knew he would play for India. He looked like that prospect,” he added.
At number three, which hasn’t been secured since Cheteshwar Pujara’s exit, Sai Sudharsan scored 81.
Kotak was unsure when asked if India now had a clear batting lineup. “I can’t answer that now,” he replied.
