Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head ruled out of Australia’s Bangladesh ODI tour

Josh Inglis will captain Australia’s one-day international series in Bangladesh after captain Mitchell Marsh and top batsman Travis Head were ruled out on Monday.

Due to Head’s personal leave and Marsh’s ankle injury, both players were absent from Australia’s 1-2 ODI series defeat in Pakistan last week.

Tanveer Sangha, a leg-spinner, will also miss the three-match series that begins in Dhaka on Tuesday due to a hamstring injury.

But as he gets ready for a comeback in the next Twenty20 series in Bangladesh, Marsh will travel over to be with the team.

Big hitter Matt Short and teenage batter Ollie Peake, who were scheduled to return home following Pakistan, will now stay on.

Sangha will be replaced by off-spinner Todd Murphy, who has played 7 Test matches but has not yet represented Australia in limited-overs cricket.

“Unfortunately, Tanveer Sangha sustained a hamstring injury during the second ODI against Pakistan and will take no further part in the tour,” AFP quoted national selector Tony Dodemaide as saying.

“We were hopeful Mitch Marsh would be available for the Bangladesh ODI series however he is still returning to full fitness from an ankle injury. Travis was initially selected in the ODI and T20I legs of this Bangladesh tour but has subsequently been granted personal leave for both,” he added.

Australia squad: Josh Inglis (capt), Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Todd Murphy, Oliver Peake, Matthew Renshaw, Liam Scott, Matt Short, Adam Zampa
