IPL 2026: Why RCB won’t have any title victory parade in Bengaluru

The fervent Royal Challengers Bengaluru supporters won’t be able to enjoy the title defence with the squad following the team’s decision to forego a victory parade in the city to prevent the mob frenzy that resulted in the fatal stampede last year.

In the final on Sunday in Ahmedabad, RCB defeated Gujarat Titans by five wickets to win their second straight IPL championship.

The newly appointed Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s swearing-in ceremony was taken into consideration by the RCB when making this judgment.

The Governor’s mansion is near Chinnaswamy Stadium, and the event is set to take place in Lok Bhavan at 4:10 p.m. It is anticipated that a sizable throng from all throughout the state will attend the political event.

It will be difficult for the state police department to spare men for another high-voltage event because the ceremony, which will be attended by a number of guests, would also require a significant deployment of police personnel.

In such situation, the RCB administration decided that following the police notification—which forbade public celebrations on city streets—was preferable.

After RCB’s first-ever title victory on June 4, 2025, 11 supporters were slain in the vicinity of Chinnaswamy Stadium during a hastily organized victory parade. Obviously, nobody wanted it to happen again this year.

The state government and judicial authorities, including the High Court, intervened in response to the sad series of events that sparked widespread public indignation.

“It is highly unlikely that there will be any activities in Bengaluru. There are certain guidelines in place, and we need to stick to them,” PTI quoted a RCB source as saying.

Before the IPL final, Bengaluru city police had issued an advisory on Friday asking people to refrain from throwing crackers, celebrating on the road, causing trouble, or getting into fights.

“We have issued an advisory asking fans not to celebrate publicly on the streets and especially not to disturb peace and security. We will not allow any public celebrations. If anyone wants to celebrate, they can do it indoors,” Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh had said.

In addition, Josh Hazlewood, Tim David (Australia), Jacob Duffy (New Zealand), Romario Shepherd (West Indies), and RCB top-order batsman Devdutt Padikkal must join the Indian Test team in Mullanpur by Wednesday before the one-off Test against Afghanistan.
