India’s ODI skipper Rohit Sharma and batting superstar Virat Kohli are probably going to be selected in the India A squad for the three 50-over matches against the Australia A team that are coming up. On September 30, October 3, and October 5, the India A team will play three unofficial ODIs against Australia A at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium.
The Hindustan Times reported on Sunday, September 7, that Rohit and Kohli might be selected for the three 50-over games.
In May 2025, Rohit and Kohli declared their retirements from Test cricket, and they haven’t participated in a competitive game since the IPL 2025 ended.
According to reports, Kohli may visit India this month and “may undergo a round of fitness assessments in Bengaluru.”
The last time Rohit and Kohli played for India was on March 9, 2025. Rohit received Player of the Match (POTM) after opening the 252-run chase with 76 runs off 83 balls in the final match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 between India and New Zealand in Dubai.
Kohli was undefeated after scoring 100 runs from 111 balls against Pakistan in Dubai on February 23 and 84 runs from 98 balls against Australia in the first semifinal on March 4. The 36-year-old right-hander took home POTM honors on both occasions.
If Rohit and Kohli play for India A, it will also help them get ready for the three-match ODI series against Australia.
Next month, the Indian men’s cricket team will visit Australia to play in a five-match T20I series and three-match ODI series. Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney will host the 50-over matches on October 19, 23, and 25, respectively, while Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Gold Coast, and Brisbane will host the five Twenty20 Internationals on October 29, October 31, November 2, November 6, and November 8, respectively.
In 46 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against Australia, Rohit has scored 2407 runs, while Kohli has tallied 2451 runs in 50 games against the six-time world champions in the game’s 50-over format.
