The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will have its annual general meeting in Mumbai on September 28, with elections for a number of positions on the agenda, including the chairman of the IPL and the president of the Board.
Arun Dhumal, the chairman of the Indian Premier League, is expected to take a mandated cool-off period after serving a cumulative six-year term, and the position of president of the BCCI has been empty since former India cricketer Roger Binny left earlier this month.
Even though elections are planned for all of the BCCI’s important positions, they really only affect one because the others are probably going to stay in their current positions.
Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the BCCI, will continue after serving for three years in total—two years and three months as joint secretary and nine months as secretary.
Following Jay Shah’s appointment as the International Cricket Council’s chairman, Saikia was overwhelmingly chosen to serve as secretary in January this year.
The other officials who are also expected to stay in their positions are Prabhtej Bhatia, who was chosen treasurer in January alongside Saikia, and Rohan Gauns Desai, who was elected joint secretary in March of this year.
Prior reports stated that Binny, who turned 70 in July, will serve as president of the BCCI until its annual general meeting (AGM) in September. The national governing body confirmed this date in a message sent to state associations on Saturday.
In October 2022, Binny was named president of the BCCI.
