ED summons Shikhar Dhawan in illegal betting app case

According to official sources, former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan was called in by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday to be questioned in connection with a suspected money laundering case involving an illegal betting app.

According to the sources, his statement will be recorded by the federal investigative agency under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) as part of this inquiry into the “illegal” betting app 1xBet.

It is believed that the 39-year-old former cricket player for India was connected to the app through specific endorsements. During the interrogation, the ED wants to know how he is connected to this app.

The agency is looking into several cases involving unlawful betting apps that are accused of evading a significant amount of taxes or defrauding investors and customers out of crores of rupees.

The federal investigation team questioned former cricketer Suresh Raina last month in this case.

Real-money online gaming has been outlawed by the Union government through recent laws.
