Virat Kohli achieved yet another milestone as he became the first batter to score 9000 runs in IPL history. He reached the milestone during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s nine-wicket win over Delhi Capitals on Monday.
Kohli was 11 runs short of the landmark and got there off the final ball of the powerplay, with RCB chasing just 76 runs. In the leading run scorers chart, Rohit Sharma is placed second and is behind by around 1900 runs.
Kohli has been one of the most consistent players in IPL history. In 275 matches, he has scored 9012 runs at an average of 40.05 and a strike rate of 133.80, including eight centuries and 66 fifties.
In the match against DC on Monday, Kohli did not have to do much with the bat, as Josh Hazlewood (4/12) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/5) had made the job easier for the batters by bundling Capitals out for just 75 in 16.3 overs. Chasing a small target, Kohli paced his innings well and guided RCB to an easy win with 81 balls left.
He started cautiously and got off the mark with a boundary off Dushmantha Chameera. With a small target to chase, Kohli looked in no rush and kept the scoreboard ticking by taking singles against Chameera and Kyle Jamieson, without taking unnecessary risks.
With the target almost achieved, Kohli stepped up the ante. Facing T Natarajan, he hit two back-to-back sixes, one over deep mid-wicket and the other straight down the ground, to finish the match in style.
So far in IPL 2026, Kohli has looked in great touch. He is the fourth-highest run-scorer this season, with 351 runs from eight matches at an average of 58.50, including three fifties and a top score of 81.
